That 53% of Americans Have Not Changed Their July 4th Celebration Plans Due to COVID-19

The July 4th holiday, also known as Independence Day, is one of the most popular holidays in the U.S. It is a time when family and friends come together to celebrate with BBQs, picnics, fireworks and patriotic decorations to honor the country’s official anniversary of U.S. independence. But with COVID-19, have these time-honored traditions changed?

The ENGINE Insights team conducted a survey to discover how Americans are planning to celebrate this year, how patriotic they are feeling due to recent events, their one favorite thing about the holiday, and more. Interestingly, the survey reveals that a majority haven’t changed their holiday plans because of COVID-19 and patriotism differs greatly by generation.

We asked: Are you planning to celebrate the 4th of July holiday? 55 percent of respondents said yes, 45 percent said no; Responded yes by generation - 65 percent Gen Z, 52 percent Gen X, 48 percent Baby Boomers, 61 percent Millennials

We asked: Considering recent events, how PATRIOTIC do you feel about the United States right now? 69 percent of respondents feel patriotic, 31 percent do not feel patriotic; Not feeling patriotic by generation - 50 percent Gen Z, 25 percent Gen X, 26 percent Baby Boomer and 37 percent Millennials

How do you plan to celebrate the 4th of July?

We asked: How do you plan to celebrate the 4th of July? 59 percent of respondents said BBQ/Picnic, 58 percent said watching fireworks, 21 percent said patriotic decorations, 21 percent said watching a patriotic TV program

What is your favorite thing about the July 4th holiday?

We asked: What is your favorite thing about the July 4th holiday? 30 percent of respondents said seeing family and friends, 28 percent said watching fireworks, 20 percent said BBQ/Picnics
