Your role and team

Reporting to the Chief Client Officer and working alongside the leadership of Engine's Experience and Innovation practice, you will help ambitious brands, both UK and Global, to grow by unlocking their entrepreneurial potential with our unique blend of creative ingenuity and commercial rigour.

Growth & Innovation Strategy

  • We identify white space growth opportunities that lead to the creation of new Ventures, Products, Services and Brands.

Product & Service Design

  • We define, design and deliver experiences that bring new Ventures, Products and Services to life.

Brand Identity & Experience

  • We craft brand identities that work seamlessly across every medium, touchpoint and customer interaction.

As a Business Director working with the Engine Experience and Innovation practice, you will assist with: 

Business Development

New business development in this space as potential pitches and opportunities arise, working in partnership with the new business and marketing team in Engine Creative. 

Financial Management

Ensure commercial diligence and sound financial management on a day to day basis across the projects on which you work including revenue growth on any projects where there is the latitude to do this.

Team Management

Be a key poc to Engine Creative’s broader account management team on behalf of the practice and help to breed more hybridity and understanding in them about E&I opportunities.   

Here's what you can look forward to:

  • Business Development

    • Partnering with the CXO, Director of Consulting, CDO and the broader new business and marketing team when needed, to help with prospecting efforts.
    • Working with Engine Account Management teams on existing relationships to help leverage these to extend Engine's Experience & Innovation remit

    Helping to qualify new client opportunities in keeping with agency ambition, suitability and profitability criteria.

    • Consulting with senior clients to provide innovation and product & service design expertise. 

    Financial Management


    • Successfully negotiating with client procurement teams in terms of the value of agreed SoW
    • Ensuring individual and team chargability and utilisation targets are met.
    • Ensuring effective pricing strategy whilst maintaining overall client profitability targets & highlighting team operational issues affecting overall client margin. 
    • Partnering with the Exec Production Director to organise team resources and developing monthly forecasts against which resources can be planned.
    • Partnering with the Exec Production Director to meet and exceed profitability targets.

    Team Management


    • Successfully managing internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best outcome for both our clients and Engine Experience & Innovation. 
    • Providing updates on project progress, account planning and conflicts or escalations to the E&I Leadership team and the executive team when appropriate.
    • Helping to grow strategic client relationships & taking part in key client meetings, and mentoring core tea
    • Identifying mentorship and training opportunities for the broader account management team  

    Experience & Innovation Practice Development

    • Supporting the continued development of the Experience & Innovation businesses offering through the projects on which you work
    • Actively identifying and proposing ways to improve practice operations from your past relevant experience
  • Here's what we're looking for:
  • In depth experience working within a tier 1 innovation consultancy, experience design firm, digital agency, or experience working with a top digitally-led consumer brand.
  • Proven track record of measurable impact. with extensive and in-depth experience in innovation and product and service design. 
  • Proven record of winning work and upselling recommendations to clients as well as helping to define and shape opportunities for creative and commercial growth
  • A natural collaborator, consciously putting the wider project team first over the interests of individuals
  • Entrepreneurial, curious &  self aware -  we value those who roll up their sleeves and get stuck in, leading by example through action.
