We have won new clients including Bakkavor, Costain, Coinbase, CVS, Davy, FRP, SSE, Speedy Hire, The Restaurant Group, and Treatt as well as a number of IPOs, whilst continuing to advise long standing clients primarily across the consumer, built environment, TMT, financials, support services and industrials sectors. 

We have advised on a number of high profile transactions and special situations including the £2.6bn takeover of Ultra Electronics by Cobham; the acquisition of Avant Homes by Berkeley DeVeer and Elliott Advisers; Connells’ £134m acquisition of Countrywide; the £4bn acquisition of Cobham by Advent International; The Restaurant Group’s £559m acquisition of Wagamama; JD Sports’ transformative $558m acquisition of US based Finish Line and the CMA enquiry in relation to the proposed acquisition of Footasylum; RWS’s c.£800m acquisition of SDL; the recent IPOs of Ashtead Technology, CT Automotive, Marks Electrical, Peel Hunt and ProCook; Mothercare’s, Four Seasons Health Care’s and Arcadia’s restructuring,  CVA, or administration processes; and Shaftesbury and SSE regarding shareholder activists.

The role

We are looking for an Associate Director to join our award-winning capital markets team to advise an exciting range of clients across multiple sectors and deliver agenda-setting work. 

The successful candidate will work closely with the senior leadership team to provide strategic communications advice to clients and manage account teams to deliver excellent service that underpins longstanding client relationships. 

Alongside fellow senior team members, you will take the lead in new business growth including by marketing and championing the MHP brand to business and City contacts.

The role will suit someone who enjoys working in a forward thinking, fast paced environment and who wants to work with the senior team to drive the agency towards its ambition of being the best agency for a networked age, where an integrated approach to tackling clients’ communications and business challenges is key.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as an integral part of the clients’ strategic advisory team to provide senior counsel and strategy input and to oversee client programmes to build strong and longstanding relationships
  • Be part of the leadership of the practice area to ensure overall quality, innovation, client retention, and appropriate levels of client servicing
  • Grow existing business and support the strategic development of the team, including through developing deep knowledge of how MHP’s broader offering will support clients’ goals
  • Actively maintain and grow external contacts to enhance MHP’s profile and unlock new business opportunities
  • Lead pitches with fresh thinking to deliver pioneering and integrated solutions to clients’ communications and business challenges, including deploying effective digital communications strategies
  • Shape and steer media relations strategy, maintaining longstanding relationships with journalists
  • Be part of the leadership team in shaping our advice around key regulatory and governance issues and other developments impacting corporates, as well as on major client specific issues
  • Be part of the leadership team responsible for inspiring and motivating the team through line managing and feedback, and identifying development opportunities, resource planning and client allocation, recruitment, staff wellbeing and managing performance issues

The successful candidate will

  • Have a keen interest in current affairs, financial markets, board level issues and what makes businesses tick
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be highly organised and time efficient
  • Be keen to work and learn quickly in a highly varied, sometimes pressured but always interesting environment
  • Be offered training via our multi-layered training and development programme
  • Demonstrate strong experience of working in communications and / or the City already
